After a long time, I got to read something engaging. My recent toiling has been very brutal to my motivation of reading. But thanks to Adavita, finally I am gaining back my Chi ;) . I got reference of this book from one of blog that I follow very diligently.. And regrets.. no.. none. The best part, it was like one Sitcom running where you want it to just continue, not because it has some thrilling moments but because it entertains you. Yeah!! I recently heard, one director has taken the challenge of making a movie out this book, well certainly a good marketing to any book writer. And sharing a little insight about me, I love these women writers for their impressive command on Girls Gossip.. and every word of this description is adored from deepest of my heart. ;)

Almost Single.. ReviewA very warm story with a mute resemblance with what contemporary female fraternity of late 30s would feel. A very nicely knitted book which captures the essence of subtle daily routines and those “Cats World of Cribbing”. I have enjoyed reading each page of the book and perhaps after some debacle readings of my life, this book came as a much desired delight. Adavita has beautifully embraced every emotion, haziness and the DESIRE to be accepted but conditionally. A story of a woman who would never compromise with karma but would obediently surrender to screamings of her mother (though, she would do what she would have anyhow, listening to mom.. only comes natural as a good daughter of family). A worth collection to have for NON-Classic readers, someone like me.. who would enjoy anything that is remotely related to feminine world of mysteries. If I have to rate this book, I would certainly rate it as a jolly-read where the author would cajole her words into your mind with an appreciated ease.

Like always I would not narrate the story in my blog, as I feel its the right of author to earn her royalty. But the gist I always can.. and there you need to forgive me for missing all most all details as I am writing this blog after a long time of reading this book. Its a story of a woman working in one of luxurious hotels in Delhi, waiting for her Mr. Right to come and paint her dreams Pink.. again and forever.. Mrs. Mom, a character that has been used since ages to make life a little exciting (in any way youcan assume), is the apt armor author has in her book and this time with her elder sister.. making the combo a reason enough for suicide.. An unwelcomed entry of Mr. Right in the story makes the entire plot a little predictable but off course her ingenuous scripting kept me looking for more pages before I slipped into bed.I particularly appreciate the last few pages of the book (certainly not because Ms. Aayesha was portrayed in a towel and then the slipping of towel.. but because it added that blush and smile of your face until the last page of the book. Well yeah!! the slipping of towel raised my appreciation for the book.. call me cheap if you have :P )..

cheers

PS: I am not rating this book as must have but yes.. it is one happy book to read when the world around you seem to be much happier than you want it to be :P

Spending 3K in Shoppersstop and then waiting for my new jeans to be length adjusted..(yes.. I am vertically challenged as some of my friends claim.. Screw u all..).. i happened to see what I always wish to ignore.. Crossword.. (book store in general).. and found this new book on the store named Oh!! shit not again.. Preface reads “A good read..no promise intended” so I took my Credit Card once again.. ( damn I wish to cut my credit card in million of pieces as every time I see anything that I might like.. I always find that in my room next day..Bloody credit card firms.. and this human greed.. working just as aptly as they wanted on me)..

I had this weird flavor for all new comers or say debutantes novelist and hence when I saw the title of the book, I looked forward to this book thinking it would be an amicable reading.. But just like the title.. every page I read.. I felt.. Oh shit not again!!.. every twist framed in the story is armored with sad fiction and a pathetic imagination. (no Loku, you can’t be rude.. Hey com’on.. its his first book… ) some three stories that try to find a common link as the central character of this book.. and all three of them are inflated with intoxicated story points..

For some reason, this young and new genre of novel writing, specially Indian, has a tendency of going under pants to capture every movement this little boneless manhood makes or under the shirt of a scenic charm (read women/girl.. in gist Females) to find stimulus for male hormones.. The same is the case with Mandar Kokate, some 100 times he let the conscience of his central character walk under pants to figure out if he is still a potent machine. Well!! a few times, it adds to giggling of the emotions but then it turns ugly when almost each time Raj ( the central character of the story) saw a girl, he needed to adjust the trousers.. what is he.. some sort of psycho..

I repent every second  I spent on reading this book.. (why would i read it then..simply because It was the test of patience and ability to control your frustration.. and jhakkaas.. I have a lot of ittttttttt). No but.. seriously.. Mr. Mandar.. what were you thinking when you had your final reading of the book.. and hello.. someone tell me the name of the person or the board who/which nominated this book for some literature awards somewhere..

A better use of the book is the give to terrorist groups and asked them to read.. A million will die of guilt of reading it.. and I bet my life.. if half of them turn to mental asylum in case such a work is ever repeated..

Alas.. yet another disappointed investment of my money..  Listen, not every IIM/IIT prodigy can or should turn author.. We have friend to serve a purpose.. to draw you away from any such temptation.. Hope I am able to convey my message…

Next on read is Almost Single..

Cheers

Another one from Chetan Bhagat.. and while he disappointed me after his first flick.. this one seems a little nice read.. well primarily because I have always been fond of love stories.. and specially when it involves that Family Generated Drama.. and thats the 2 States for you.. While each word seemed inspired from “Love Story-Erich Segal”, its a nicely built plot. The best part of Chetan Bhagat is his style of writing and how he connects well with those typically “Early 20s and 30s” people and how the word “Fuck” become so much important to them .. in all possible meanings of this word.. While I agree the usage of this word has helped me appreciate this book well as I could almost instantaneously utter the word whenever I saw it printed in black in the book.. Something like.. Pure Resonance.. ;)

I won’t brief the story.. as I believe a writer must be paid Royalty and his due respect.. But few things that came to my mind while reading was.. He certainly made it look like a pure drama.. just like what he did in one night @ call center .. I hate to see him adding some undesired stuff or story points just to make the fit right.. Com’on.. you are actually spoiling the fun of the book by inviting the heavenly bodies in your books.. Let them be there to answer prayers of people down here.. you don’t take the burden of inviting them down in the messy world.. I hope he gets my point.. (can somebody ping him the link of this post.. I wont.. I am modest :P ) and then if he was trying to pull everything together.. he seemed to add some pages for no reason.. Guruji.. why would you want him to come.. when there was actually no role for him in this entire plot.. and if you give me the reason that “Forgiveness” is what he wanted to teach us.. then.. Curse off.. but it was never required in the story.. Dad and Chetan.. I am still wondering the whole logic of this him slapping his dad to be a part of this book and then why the sad relation should be a part and if he always was irked with Pa and him, then why would he want readers to know that Pa actually got everything settled for him.. Yeah!! if you want to tell me that dad was invented to make sure that Ma’s character as “You are my son and I own you.. and I deserve command over you” attitude..then I can kind of OK this .. but then again.. there was no need for Dad to go and help Ananya’s parents pacify over Punjabi Mom’s taunts..

Well.. I think I am taking it a bit personal with Chetan bhagat :P .. hehe.. no no.. he is a nice writer and I specially loved his simple and connecting vocabulary.. So in nutshell.. 2 States is nice read if you are traveling in train and are TrainING for overnight journey.. this is a good timepass.. ( what am I .. a critic.. i mean some editor of any daily.. na na.. i am just trying to prove.. I am an avid reader :P ) So folks take care for now..

Love ya all..

Loku

PS: The main reason I could connect so well with this story or rather say enjoy this book was I HAVE seen both the parts North and South India and felt them to really appreciate each and everything he made me read.. From Madarasis to Punjabis.. and Dosa to Butter Chicken.. Its getting Globally Indian :P
